The Doddridge County Board of Education was pleased to have Lyla Cork, a 5th-grade student, lead the Pledge of Allegiance at its regular meeting on January 9, 2025. Lyla is a motivated student with aspirations of becoming a third-grade teacher. Her favorite bus driver also attended to cheer her on.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the state, county, and local crews for their unwavering efforts in clearing roads, sidewalks, and turnarounds. We also commend the outstanding work of our custodial and maintenance teams, who have ensured our buildings are safe and ready for students. Additionally, we greatly appreciate the dedication of our bus drivers, who have been cleaning and chaining buses to ensure safe transportation as soon as conditions allow. The teamwork and support of our community are truly invaluable. We look forward to welcoming our students back to the classroom next week.

As the new year approaches, many of us reflect on the changes we'd like to make in our lives. For parents, this often includes resolutions to become better at handling the challenges of raising children. Parenting is no easy task, and seeking support or guidance can make a world of difference. That's why our partnership with ParentGuidance.org is so valuable. This platform provides parents, guardians, and staff with access to expert coaching, where you can learn effective strategies, gain useful tips, and find support during times when it feels especially hard. Here are a few tips that might help as you approach the new year: 1. Set realistic expectations: Parenting is not about perfection, but about progress. Set small, achievable goals for yourself and your family, and celebrate those wins. 2. Be consistent with routines: Consistency can help children feel more secure. Establishing daily routines for things like meals, chores, and bedtime can provide a sense of stability. 3. Embrace open communication: Engage in regular conversations with your children, even when they seem disinterested. It helps build a strong bond and ensures they feel heard. 4. Practice self-care: You can't pour from an empty cup. Make time for yourself, whether it’s through physical activity, hobbies, or simply taking a break to recharge. 5. We had a visitor to our school Thursday! The Grinch, welcomed in our Middle School students for their last full day of school before break. Just look at these Middle Schooler’s faces as they got to see a real-life star from one of their favorite holiday books and movies come to life at Doddridge County Middle School. The Grinch gave out candy canes, high fives and hugs as well as sharing some great jokes and laughs with our students. You never know who will show up at DCMS, another great reason to be at school each day! #BulldogsInTheBuilding

Doddridge County Middle School student Tayler Young was awarded the Superintendent's Challenge Coin in recognition of her outstanding character and commitment to the #UnitedToMakeADifference mission.

That’s’ a wrap! The 2024 Holiday Food Drive; Students Feeding Students has ended. Today members of the Doddridge County School’s Holistic Child Department/Communities In Schools team, in partnership with T&B Mountaineer, LLC boxed up these items for 20 families. These items will be going home over the next couple days. The food drive was also supplemented by community members dropping food items off at West Union Shop N Save, donations from staff members of T&B Mountaineer, LLC as well as a donation from the Doddridge County Family Resource Network and Doddridge County High School’s FFA Chapter. “We are humbled by the support of our community, students, and partners; T&B Mountaineer, LLC, DCHS FFA, Shop N Save, and the Doddridge County Family Resource Network to assist us in providing additional items to support families within the district facing food insecurities during the upcoming Holiday Break.” Jeremy Waugaman, County Mental Health Coordinator. Nick Capella of T&B Mountaineer, LLC stated “Doddridge County Schools staff were easy to work with on this project and our staff at T&B Mountaineer, LLC thank them for helping us make this project a success for students and families”. Our team looks forward to continuing to assist our students and families and will be looking to continue our efforts with tackling the food insecurity issues of our district. On a side note, it came down to the wire between the 9th grade and 5th grade to see who would win the pizza party for bringing in the most items. The 5th graders pulled away at the last moment and will be enjoying a pizza party sponsored by T&B Mountaineer, LLC on January 10, 2025.

On Monday, December 16, 2024, the Doddridge County Board of Education hosted its annual Local School Improvement Councils (LSIC) meeting at the Doddridge County High School Auditorium. Each school’s council is comprised of teachers, service personnel, bus drivers, parents, and business and community members. Representatives from each facility shared updates highlighting key events, success stories, and achievements from the first semester. This annual meeting provides an opportunity for schools to showcase the incredible progress made by their students and faculty. The presentations were both insightful and inspiring, offering a glimpse into the hard work, dedication, and success happening across Doddridge County Schools. A special shout-out to 3rd grader Myla Sponaugle, who wowed the audience with her expertise and gave an excellent perspective on the elementary educational experience. It’s amazing to witness the positive impact of education as we empower our students on their journeys toward success. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this evening so impactful!

Parents and Guardians of Middle School and High School Students YOU ARE INVITED to participate (As very important special guests) in a focus group studying barriers to youth involvement. See the flyer below. You must RSVP to 304-439-0443. One person per household will be paid $50 for attending. Come help this organization learn more about barriers and assist your teen in becoming more involved in our great community. The group will meet at the Doddridge County Public Library from 6-8 on Friday, 12/20/24.

Trey McDonough, captain of the wrestling team and an accomplished, well-rounded young man, proudly led the Doddridge County Board of Education in the Pledge of Allegiance during the Regular/LSIC Faculty Senate Meeting held on December 16, 2024, in the DCHS Auditorium.

This is especially important for substitute drivers who may not be familiar with destinations such as "home," "grandparents," or "babysitter."
