A Message from the Members of the Doddridge County Board of Education and the Superintendent of Schools

On Monday, December 16, 2024, the Doddridge County Board of Education hosted its annual Local School Improvement Councils (LSIC) meeting at the Doddridge County High School Auditorium. Each school’s council is comprised of teachers, service personnel, bus drivers, parents, and business and community members. Representatives from each facility shared updates highlighting key events, success stories, and achievements from the first semester. This annual meeting provides an opportunity for schools to showcase the incredible progress made by their students and faculty. The presentations were both insightful and inspiring, offering a glimpse into the hard work, dedication, and success happening across Doddridge County Schools. A special shout-out to 3rd grader Myla Sponaugle, who wowed the audience with her expertise and gave an excellent perspective on the elementary educational experience. It’s amazing to witness the positive impact of education as we empower our students on their journeys toward success. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this evening so impactful!

Food Distribution going on at Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department today, 12/17/24.

Parents and Guardians of Middle School and High School Students YOU ARE INVITED to participate (As very important special guests) in a focus group studying barriers to youth involvement. See the flyer below. You must RSVP to 304-439-0443. One person per household will be paid $50 for attending. Come help this organization learn more about barriers and assist your teen in becoming more involved in our great community. The group will meet at the Doddridge County Public Library from 6-8 on Friday, 12/20/24.

Trey McDonough, captain of the wrestling team and an accomplished, well-rounded young man, proudly led the Doddridge County Board of Education in the Pledge of Allegiance during the Regular/LSIC Faculty Senate Meeting held on December 16, 2024, in the DCHS Auditorium.

Attention Parents/Guardians: When requesting a change to your student’s bus transportation, please provide the following information to ensure a smooth and accurate process: -A Physical Address for the drop-off location. -A Contact Number for the individual responsible for meeting your child at the bus stop. This is especially important for substitute drivers who may not be familiar with destinations such as "home," "grandparents," or "babysitter." Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to improve our transportation procedures!

Students at Doddridge County Early Learning Academy had a visitor to their school on Tuesday, 12/10/24. Chloe, Doddridge County High School's Therapy Dog from Doddridge County Schools partnership with Lady Justice's "Friends with Paws" program. Mr. Waugaman and Chloe spent time in each classroom sharing about Chloe's job at Doddridge County High School. Students learned about her training, watch her in action as well as participated one of her valuable therapy sessions with each classroom. The Early Learning Academy would like to thank Mrs. Gum and Doddridge County High School, for allowing Chloe to spend her day with us. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Reminder from Doddridge County School’s Holistic Child Department/Communities In Schools team, in partnership with T&B Mountaineer, LLC. Our food drive to support families within the district facing food insecurities during the upcoming Holiday Break is underway. Donations will be accepted through December 17, 2024. Our Middle and High School students are encouraged to participate by donating nonperishable food items, with the added challenge of competing to see which grade level can contribute the most. The winning grade level will enjoy a Pizza Party sponsored by T&B Mountaineer, LLC on January 10, 2025. As a community member, how can you help? Community members are invited to participate by donating nonperishable food items at the following locations: Doddridge County High School, main entrance Shop & Save of West Union There is still time to come together to help our community during the holiday season!

Doddridge County Early Learning Academy received a grant from the Antero Foundation for a book vending machine and the initial book supply. Today, December 9th, was the ribbon cutting ceremony where six students were the first to use the machine. The whole school participated in the ceremony and are very excited to work towards earning tokens to purchase books. We would like to thank the Antero Foundation for sponsoring our book vending machine!

Our Holistic Child Department and Communities In Schools team are committed to supporting those in need by sharing resources that can help. We are pleased to present this Food Resource Guide, created in partnership with the Doddridge County Family Resource Network, which provides information about local services available to assist our community members in accessing food. This one-page guide offers a list of community resources dedicated to addressing food insecurity, helping ensure that everyone has the nourishment they need to thrive. Whether you or someone you know is in need, these resources are here to offer support. Please refer to the attached guide for more information about where to find food assistance in our community.

December 2024 Newsletter - Mental Health Series from The Cook Center/Parent Guidance

At the Doddridge County Board of Education regular meeting on December 2nd, held at the Doddridge County Bus Garage, Superintendent Cochran took a moment to shine a spotlight on the unwavering dedication and service of the board’s members. Pictured are President Chad Evans, Vice President Denver Burnside, Laura Cottrill, Justin Holtz, and Leslie Underwood. These individuals were recognized for their behind-the-scenes efforts and collaborative work that form the foundation of the district’s success. In his remarks Superintendent Cochran expressed gratitude, stating, "I always say it takes exceptional people to make a meaningful impact on students in our system, and the five of you are truly the pillars that uphold our students and staff. Your unwavering dedication, countless hours, and steadfast commitment ensure the safety, well-being, and educational success of every student in this district. Your efforts may often go unseen, but they are deeply felt throughout our schools and community." As a token of appreciation, each board member was presented with a plaque acknowledging their hard work, leadership, and commitment to the students, staff, and families of Doddridge County Schools. The recognition served as a reminder of the vital role the board plays in shaping a strong and supportive educational environment. In response, President Evans shared: "On behalf of the school board, we humbly thank the Superintendent for the kind recognition. It’s truly an honor to serve our students and employees."

Standout cross-country runner Catherine Cottrill proudly led the Pledge of Allegiance at the Doddridge County Board of Education regular meeting, held on December 2nd at the Doddridge County Schools Bus Garage.
